BUILDING SERVICES WORKER
PRIMARY FUNCTION
Under direct supervision of the Building Services Supervisor to perform U.S. and interoffice mail duties; process District bills; operate a variety of office equipment, perform custodial and minor building maintenance work.
This is a non-exempt position and is part of the Utility Services and Maintenance Bargaining Unit.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Pick up, sort and deliver interoffice and U.S. mail at various District and outside facilities daily; operate mail handling equipment; dispatch mail according to a prescribed schedule; perform minor maintenance on mailing equipment; complete forms and log books; determine class or types of postage rates; meter bulk mailings; answer questions and advise as to postal regulations and rates; operate a variety of office equipment; receive and distribute shipments of merchandise and supplies; move, arrange and set up office furniture and equipment for various events; report building and equipment maintenance requirements; clean grounds and facilities; provide vacation/sick leave relief for night time custodians.
OTHER RELATED DUTIES
May assist in minor plumbing, electric and custodial work; other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Any combination of education, experience, knowledge and abilities may satisfy the necessary minimum qualifications. A typical way to obtain the education, experience, knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Three (3) years experience of mail systems and/or general maintenance experience for the Building Services Worker.
Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of postal regulations; modern office and custodial practices, supplies, and equipment. Ability to operate mailing machine and related equipment; maintain files and records; make arithmetic calculations; make minor repairs to reproduction equipment; follow oral and written instructions; work cooperatively with others, work with minimal supervision; write clearly and legibly.
Special Requirement: Must have a valid California Class C driver license.
